Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has rejected claims that AI could bring about humanity’s extinction within the next decade, describing such warnings as alarmist and unsupported by scientific evidence.
Huang said he did not believe 2030 represented a possible end point for human civilization. He argued that frightening the public with such forecasts was irresponsible and unnecessary.
His remarks follow renewed arguments over the dangers associated with increasingly powerful AI systems. Recent warnings from researchers and technology figures have intensified discussions about whether companies should slow the pace at which advanced models are being developed.
The debate gained attention after former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon claimed that AI developers believe the technology could eventually pose an existential threat. His remarks contributed to a wider discussion involving senior figures in the sector, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI boss Sam Altman, both of whom have spoken about the need for greater caution in AI development.
Huang disputed the most severe predictions, saying they were not supported by established science. He also argued that Nvidia has a strong commercial reason to promote responsible use of its technology, as the company’s future depends on the safe adoption of its products.
The Nvidia chief also questioned some calls from technology companies for a pause or reduction in AI development. He suggested that such appeals could, in some cases, be connected to concerns about legal responsibility for potential damage caused by AI products. Huang said policymakers and the public should examine the motives behind those proposals carefully.

U.S. restrictions limit the sale of some advanced Nvidia chips to China, while Chinese policies encourage domestic alternatives. Officials are now considering creating a system for notifying each other about AI safety concerns.
Huang recently attended a technology gathering hosted by King Charles, who warned industry leaders about the potentially profound risks associated with AI. U.S. President Trump, however, has repeatedly dismissed calls for slowing development and has characterized fears surrounding the technology as unfounded.
