US House Bill Seeks to Compel Federal Agencies to Follow NIST AI Guidelines

Lawmakers have introduced new legislation aimed at creating a more consistent approach to how federal agencies handle AI.  The proposal, introduced by Representative Ted Lieu, would require federal agencies to adopt AI standards based on guidance produced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Under the measure, agencies would be expected to follow NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework, a model released in 2023 to help organizations identify and address challenges linked to AI systems.  The legislation has drawn support from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, with representatives Zach Nunn and Don Beyer joining as co-sponsors.  In remarks released alongside the proposal, Beyer described…

AI Funding Grows in the EU Region

Europe’s startup ecosystem is increasingly being shaped by AI, with new figures showing that AI-focused companies accounted for a substantial share of venture investment across the region in 2026. According to Crunchbase data, close to half of all venture capital deployed in Europe so far this year has flowed into businesses connected to artificial intelligence. A major factor behind Europe’s AI momentum has been the emergence of new research hubs focused on advanced machine learning. London, in particular, has become a focal point for new ventures founded by former employees of DeepMind, the pioneering British AI company launched in 2010…

It’s in the Code—the Future of Autonomous Warfare

AINewsWire Editorial Coverage: The nature of modern conflict is being fundamentally rewritten, driven by the explosive proliferation of cheap, mass-produced drones that are upending the economics of warfare. In war-torn setting such as Ukraine, millions of low-cost systems, often assembled in small workshops or adapted from off-the-shelf commercial hardware, are now performing functions once only sophisticated aircraft and expensive precision munitions could do. However, while drone hardware has grown abundant and affordable, a glaring constraint has surfaced: The vast majority of these systems lack the intelligence needed to operate independently in contested environments. GPS jamming, electronic warfare and the continuous…
