Doctors Could Soon Become Reliant on AI, Study Finds

AI is becoming a regular part of medical practice, helping doctors identify common health conditions through routine screenings. However, new research suggests that some specialists could start depending too heavily on the technology.  The Polish study, which focused on gastroenterologists performing colonoscopies, found that once doctors got used to working with AI support, their ability to independently identify polyps and other irregularities declined by roughly 20%.  The results, which were published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology journal, raise questions about whether even experienced professionals can lose focus or skills after only a short exposure to AI assistance.  Lead researcher…

Researchers Use AI to Improve RNA Nanoparticle Design

Researchers at MIT have developed a new AI method to design nanoparticles that can deliver RNA vaccines and other RNA-based treatments more effectively.  The team trained a machine learning system on thousands of existing lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), the tiny fat-based particles commonly used to carry mRNA into cells. The model was able to suggest new designs that outperformed existing ones. It also revealed which particles worked best in different cell types and how new materials could be added to improve performance.  According to one of the study authors, Giovanni Traverso, AI allowed them to test combinations far faster than traditional…
