Companies like McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) will Capitalize on the Growing Demand for AI Resources

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the landscape of economies around the world. Estimates indicate that generative AI alone will triple its growth to a total market value of $1.3 trillion in the next decade. As most investors know by now, there is a surge in the demand for energy-guzzling data centers that are designed to develop and train AI systems. They also know that advanced semiconductor chips are at the heart of all AI technologies. However, many haven’t considered that critical minerals, such as copper, gold and silver, are vital components of this burgeoning industry. To put the skyrocketing demand…

AI Helps US Treasury to Combat Financial Crime

New data shows that artificial intelligence has aided the U.S. Department of Treasury in analyzing data and recovering $1 billion worth of check fraud in the fiscal period of 2024. This is almost three times what the department has recovered in the 2023 fiscal year. In a phone interview, a top official at the Treasury, Renata Miskell, noted that using artificial intelligence had been transformative. Miskell added that this had improved the department’s fraud prevention and detection game. The department also credited the tech with assisting officials in recovering and preventing over $4 billion worth of fraud overall in the…

Groundbreaking Work on AI Wins Duo Nobel Prize in Physics

Geoffrey Hinton, undeniably referred to as “the Godfather of AI,” has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics alongside John Hopfield for their groundbreaking work that triggered the development of machine learning, the science behind artificial intelligence as we know it today. The duo got this global recognition for the foundational work that they did that made it possible for various AI applications and products to become a reality. Hinton, a University of Toronto-based computer scientist and his peer Hopfield, a Princeton University professor, shared a $1m cash prize that came with their coveted award. The ceremony recognizing the pair…

Google Looks to Leverage Nuclear Power for its AI Data Centers

Earlier this week, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG), through its brand Google, signed an agreement to use nuclear reactors to generate power for its data centers. The multinational tech firm’s agreement with Kairos Power will see it begin to use its first nuclear reactor before 2030 as more come online by 20235. Kairos Power specializes in developing small nuclear reactors which utilize molten fluoride salt as a coolant. This is different from conventional nuclear plants, which use water as a coolant. In 2023, the California-based nuclear tech firm was awarded a permit that’d allow it to construct a new…

Golden Opportunity: Why McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) Shines Amid Surging Demand for Critical Minerals

Gold has been surging in popularity and value. Just this year, the precious metal has increased by approximately 28%, reaching a peak of more than $2,680 per ounce. In addition to Federal Reserve rate cuts and central bank purchases across emerging markets, the prospect of new financial sanctions imposed by the U.S. and growing concerns about the national debt could provide additional momentum for gold as many analysts forecast prices will continue to set new all-time highs. In the current market landscape, gold stands out as a strategic hedge against both geopolitical and financial risks, making it an attractive option…

Nobel Prizes Awarded to AI in Physics, Chemistry Spark Debate

Last week saw artificial intelligence (AI) receive Nobel prizes in chemistry and physics. This is new, considering it’s the first time artificial intelligence has been recognized in this particular setting. Normally, Nobel prizes are awarded for research conducted over a lengthy period and after influence is evaluated to ensure the recipient has the greatest benefit to humankind. John Hopfield, a physicist, and Professor Geoffrey Hinton, who is regarded as the godfather of artificial intelligence, were awarded the Nobel prize in physics. Their work, which started in the 1980s, focused on inventing artificial neural networks based on physics concepts. This later…

AI Helps Researchers Uncover Gender-Based Variations During Glioblastoma Prognosis

Prior studies have determined that men are more likely to develop glioblastoma in comparison to women. These studies have also shown these tumors are usually more aggressive in males as compared to women. Now scientists are using artificial intelligence (AI) to uncover risk factors that may help clinicians predict which tumors might grow more quickly and the differences between the sexes. For their study, the researchers examined digital images of tumor samples, searching for patterns that could help predict how quickly a tumor could grow and, in turn, how long a patient could survive with the illness. The outcome dictates…

Gartner Report Indicates 8-in-10 Developers Need to Upskill Amid AI Surge

In the coming years, developers may require additional skills as the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) grows. Gartner, an American technological research and consulting company, recently conducted a survey, which found that about 80% of developers will need to upskill by 2027. The report surveyed 300 organizations in the United Kingdom and the United States in late 2023. It found that in 2024, 56% of developers with skills in machine learning and artificial intelligence were the most in-demand roles. The survey also found that the biggest skills gap these organizations faced was in applying artificial intelligence/machine learning for applications.…

Airlines To Use AI to Reduce Passenger Wait Times

Gate allocation, which may seem easy, is an unexpectedly complicated task. Dr. Joseph Doetsch, Lufthansa Industry Solutions’ Quantum computing lead, reveals that with 10 airplanes and 15 gates, there exist more than 570 billion possibilities. This makes it harder to pick the best gate for every flight, which in turn decreases congestion and amount of fuel needed as well as shortens aircraft taxi times. This is what reduces the amount of time travelers spend on the tarmac. Normally, gates are assigned when flight schedules are published, which is almost 12 months ahead. The assignments are then reviewed one month in…
