Nobel Prizes Awarded to AI in Physics, Chemistry Spark Debate
Last week saw artificial intelligence (AI) receive Nobel prizes in chemistry and physics. This is new, considering it’s the first time artificial intelligence has been recognized in this particular setting. Normally, Nobel prizes are awarded for research conducted over a lengthy period and after influence is evaluated to ensure the recipient has the greatest benefit to humankind. John Hopfield, a physicist, and Professor Geoffrey Hinton, who is regarded as the godfather of artificial intelligence, were awarded the Nobel prize in physics.
