Governor Newsom Vetoes Groundbreaking AI Law in California

Governor Gavin Newsom has rejected an artificial intelligence (“AI”) safety measure that would have imposed regulations on AI in California. This is a welcome decision for many, particularly major tech companies that had opposed its passage strongly. Newsom explained that the measure could cause AI developers to move out of California while also stifling innovation. The measure’s author, Senator Scott Wiener, argued that the veto permitted companies to carry on with the development of powerful tech with no government oversight. UK Police Start Testing AI Tool Capable of Collapsing Time During Detective Work

A recently developed artificial intelligence (AI) tool may help law enforcement carry out decades of detective work in hours. The tool, called the Soze tool, was developed in Australia. It has been designed to review financial transactions, video footage, emails, social media and other documents all at the same time. One assessment demonstrated that this tool was able to analyze evidential material in 27 complex cases in 30 hours.
