More Job Openings for Workers with AI Skills Are Being Advertised

AI often sparks conversations about job loss, but it is also driving the creation of new roles across many industries. Recently, job opportunities connected to AI have seen a sharp rise as more companies seek talent familiar with this growing technology.

A recent Brookings Institution report reveals that job listings that mention AI have been climbing steadily for over a decade. In the past 15 years, these postings have grown at an average yearly rate of almost 29%, far outpacing the general job market’s growth rate of 11%.

AI use in business operations is expanding, especially in sectors like manufacturing. According to Brookings, the number of manufacturers using AI jumped from around 4% in 2023 to nearly 9% by June 2025.

This year, over 80,000 job ads highlighted skills related to GenAI, a massive jump from fewer than 4,000 in 2010.

Even with this surge in interest, jobs focused on AI still represent a small slice of the broader employment landscape. Goldman Sachs analysts predict that the most intense phase of AI integration will likely arrive starting in 2030.

The AI job market spans a variety of roles. Some positions are highly technical, like machine learning engineers and data scientists. Others include more general roles that benefit from AI knowledge, such as business analysts and software developers.

Companies are also bringing in consultants to help implement AI systems, and there’s growing interest in roles focused on the ethical use of AI.

AI skills are also expanding beyond traditional tech fields. Lightcast data shows that in 2024, over half of the roles requiring AI knowledge were in marketing, finance, and HR. Brookings researchers expect this trend to continue, especially as companies better understand what AI can do and where it fits into their operations.

One reason AI jobs are attracting attention is the higher earning potential. Lightcast data shows that roles requiring AI knowledge typically pay close to $18,000 more per year than similar jobs that don’t mention AI.

Not surprisingly, tech centers like Seattle and Silicon Valley are still leading the way, with those areas accounting for a combined 20% of AI-related listings. But other regions, particularly in the South and the East Coast corridor from Boston to Washington, D.C., are beginning to catch up. According to experts at Brookings, universities are playing a key role in this regional expansion by training talent and driving research.

As more companies like Thumzup Media Corp. (NASDAQ: TZUP) enter the market and use AI to supercharge their service offerings, we are going to see more job openings requiring employees skilled in using AI.
