Google Announces First AI-Backed Android Update

Last week, Google revealed that it would be integrating new artificial intelligence (AI) features into its new Android devices. This decision to integrate its Gemini artificial-intelligence assistant to its devices demonstrates how the multinational corporation is focused on offering its AI solution to consumers before Apple consumers receive AI features.

At the moment, Google, whose parent company is Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG), doesn’t generate a significant amount of revenue from its hardware business. However, its newest Android features could assist in the generation of new revenue through its AI subscription program.

In a blog post, Android Ecosystem President Sameer Samat revealed that the company had rebuilt Gemini so consumers could speak to the assistant as they would to another person. With these new features, this AI assistant can complete complex tasks, understand one’s intent and follow a consumer’s train of thought.

Samat added that Gemini would be available on different models from various device makers.

Prior to this launch, Google had included some features of artificial intelligence in Android. This is the first time this tech company emphasized its abilities powered by a large artificial intelligence language model. This assistant can carry out tasks using data from Google applications.

In its blog, Google explained that users can also ask Gemini to draft an email and develop images. Users can also ask the assistant questions about the content of a video. In addition to this, users can ask questions about what’s on their phone screen in other applications, including Gmail, Flights and Maps.

In its announcement, Google revealed that it would be adding support for third-party extensions.

Currently, the AI assistant has different voices, making it easier for users to hold conversations through its Live feature. Initially, this feature will be accessible on certain devices and to subscribers of the Gemini advanced program, which is available for $19.99 a month.

In addition, Google rolled out its latest Pixel phones, including the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which comes with features of the artificial intelligence solutions. Among other features, the Pixel 9 series has a screen that’s more than 30% brighter so consumers can better view the screen in direct sunlight; it also features an upgraded camera.

This series also has 16GB of RAM as well as its latest Tensor G4 processor to support use of artificial intelligence. The starting price of the Pixel 9 is $799, which is $100 more than Pixel 8. The Pixel 9 Pro is going for $999 and comes with a free 12-month subscription to Gemini Advanced.
